Winged and Wounded
January 7 to February 2, 2012
Enrich your cultural perspective by visiting the new exhibit “Winged and Wounded” by artist Tania Guzmán. The Opening Reception will begin Saturday, January 7th, 2012 at 2pm. The show will run January 7th to February 2nd in the Kent Farndale Gallery in the Scugog Memorial Public Library at 231 Water Street in Port Perry.
Tania Guzmán, was born in Toronto but has divided her time between Mexico, Canada and the United States. All three countries have influenced her creative processes and aesthetic approach.
“I work with transparencies, so that what originally was there both remains and is changed,” says Tania. “In the process I create unconscious dreamlike places. Each painting becomes an invitation for the viewer to find and to create their own meaning.”
The Kent Farndale Gallery is open 7 days a week during library hours. Please call 905-985-7686 for more information.

Shoppers Drug Mart Mural Celebrates Scugog’s Railway Heritage
This past August, the Scugog Council for the Arts and the Township of Scugog worked together with Shoppers Drug Mart in partnership with Plazacorp Ontario 2 Limited Partnership to bring an original work of public art to the new Shoppers Drug Mart in Port Perry. The mural, titled “Early Life on Lake Scugog” was painted by area artist and SCA member Tony Johnson, now hangs on the western wall of the building and celebrates Scugog’s railway heritage. “Early Life on Lake Scugog” features many local landmarks such as the old train station along Water St, the mill on Queen St. and the steamship Crandella.
Now limited edition, signed giclee prints of Mr. Johnson’s original watercolour maquette are available for sale. Each print, approximately 12” X 30” (including borders), will be produced on quality watercolour paper, numbered and signed by the artist and wrapped in archival quality packaging. The Scugog Council for the Arts, with the support of Mr. Johnson, is offering the prints for $149 each and all profits will support the activities and programs of the Scugog Council for the Arts. There will only be a maximum of 100 signed prints of “Early Life on Lake Scugog” made available and orders placed prior to December 8 will be ready for Christmas gift giving.
For more information on this exceptional art purchase opportunity, contact the SCA office at 905 982-2121, 181 Perry St. Unit G-1 or info@scugogarts.ca.
